If you want to be a trendy company, in the corporate buzz word bingo, these days, you cannot miss “digital transformation”. But the idea behind this term is much more than just the launch of an online shop or turning paper into PDF.
Digital transformation requires more than cool software or pure technology. The one that needs much more attention is data. Of course, you want to hire some awesome data scientists. But you also want to give these creative species space and freedom to really have an impact! Which leads us to innovation, also a potential outcome of digital transformation.
The one, the real game changer is culture. Cultural change comes the hard way. It means pain. Is it supported by top management? Rarely. Humans are creatures of habit. It doesn’t matter whether you are a manager or doing a regular job.
But change can be fun. Change can be inspiring. Change can offer endless opportunities. That is what this talk is all about.

Since 1 March 2017 Timo Salzsieder is CSO (Chief Solution Officer) & CIO (Chief Information Officer) at METRO AG and Member of the Operating Board, Düsseldorf.
On 1 April 2018, Timo additionally assumed the position of CEO METRONOM, METRO’s IT company, providing METRO companies with individual and forward-looking IT solutions. He is responsible for all IT activities and runs as well the product management and user experience group.
Timo studied Computer Science in Constance in Germany, Nottingham in the UK, and Berkeley in California. In 1996 he graduated and started his professional career as a consultant at Oracle in Munich, Germany.
Between 1999 and 2005, as a member of the management team responsible for IT at Loyalty Partner GmbH, he was involved in setting up Payback. Subsequently he switched to Bertelsmann arvato services, where he held responsibility for the financial, health and IT services sectors.
From February 2008 until 2010, as Executive Vice President at D+S Europe AG in Hamburg, Germany, he was responsible for the expansion of the company’s e-commerce activities in Europe and overseas.
Since 2009 Timo has additionally provided support in the areas of e-commerce und CRM as Senior Advisor at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.
